Sometimes I find that I have an item in the store that’s been here for quite some time before I realize that it could be solving one of my many life dilemmas. Lately, a battle has been raging between myself, my 5 year old kindergarten attending son, and the unending array of sugary treats that seem to be offered at said son’s school cafeteria. The main issue being as follows, 5 year old would like to buy lunch at school because, A. its cool, and B. it provides the autonomy that every 5 year old desires in life by giving him the opportunity to choose what he eats. Which, of course, what does every 5 year old want to eat for lunch besides chocolate milk and cookies!? After a series of reports at bus pick up of “good morning, bad afternoon” in reference to how his day went, I started plying him further with questions about his eating habits in the lunchroom. What emerged was a pattern of 5 year old food decisions that were not in any way leading to a good afternoon for a sugared up, slightly feral kid and the poor adults that are in charge of wrangling him.
SO, the point of this story is…5 year old is taking his lunch, lovingly packed by his darling mother, to school every day from now until he goes to college. Despite the nutritious, wholesome, delicious lunch said loving mother has been packing for him, the lunchbox is coming back with uneaten food, usually of the “entree” variety, while the “treats” aka, yogurt, fruit has been scarfed at what I can only imagine is break-neck speed.
Tomorrow morning, lunch in the lunchbox will be adorned to the hilt with these adorable stickers and notes.

Hopefully 5 year old is going to think that the nutritious delicious food is so cute and funny when decorated with the adorable stickers (not to mention the liberal use of the “eat me first” sticker) that he wouldn’t THINK of eating the treats first and leaving the healthy stuff to whither away in the lunchbox.
I’ll have to let you all know how it goes.
In the meantime, if you too are dealing with a similar food related struggle, may I recommend popping in to pick up a set of these really very cute stickers and notes for yourself? They’re 10 bucks a pack and I tell you what, if it gets my kid to eat his food without quite so much drama, they’d be worth it at double the price!
Happy spring everyone!!
